About the Photo-Medical Valley Research Alliance
"Photo-Medical Valley Research Alliance in Keihanna" is an alliance of industries, governments, and academia that aims to form industrial clusters through extensive medical and industrial applications of cutting-edge photonic technologies, a field in which the Kansai Science City and its surrounding area have made remarkable advances.
We hold lecture-style workshops on a monthly basis to provide information on the most advanced photo-medical technologies. We alsopromote research and development activities regarding topics that aim to create industrial clusters.
As for the promotion of research and development activities mentioned above, a typical example is the "Creation of Photo-Medical Valley," a theme presented by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency and adopted as a subject for the "Center Formation to Create Innovations in the Field of Advanced Integration," a program funded by the 2007 Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology. The theme focuses on the development of cancer treatment technologies made possible by innovative, laser-driven, particle-beam acceleration. Moreover, in an effort to make the Keihanna Photo-Medical Valley Plan even more solid and expansive, in April 2007 we launched working groups to pursue the following selected studies: "industrial applications of x-rays and far infrared rays," "ubiquitous medical equipment," "EMC measures for medical equipment" and "collaborative usage of advanced medical diagnostic testing equipment."
